The Guyana Newsletter, Issue 13 (February - June 2023) is now online and offers a concise overview of recent SWM Programme activities in Guyana.

This latest issue includes an exciting interview with Yusuf Abraham, a key member of Visit Rupununi (VR), and project updates including an important achievement concerning inland fisheries.

In fact, the SWM Programme, the Department of Fisheries, and the Ministry of Agriculture have successfully developed a proposed draft aquaculture bill to support the regulation and management of the aquaculture sector as well as proposed amendments to the Fisheries Act (2002) to include inland fisheries and co-management.

ICCB 2023 Symposium on Wild Meat video is out!

A wild meat symposium on ‘’Evidence-informed interventions from the forest to the fork - sustainable wild meat management in Central Africa’’, co-organized by the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme and the Trade, Development and Environment Hub took place at the 2023 International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2023) on July 23-27 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Can wild meat be hunted sustainably in tropical forests?

On 12 October 2023, CIFOR-ICRAF presented a session on Bushmeat at the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF)’s Nairobi conference.

The focus was namely on teasing out complex conservation and livelihood challenges in the bushmeat sector.

The article clearly explains the challenge of low-income rural countries and regions in coping with food insecurity and the sustainable use of wildlife resources.

How can we strike a balance between conservation and the well-being of local populations?

Insights from the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme were shared highlighting the importance of developing a deep understanding of what’s happening in each ecosystem, community, and country.
